Honduras Sign Language Project

Updated: Sep 1, 2022

This year, one of our major projects has been partnering with Wycliffe Bible Translators to translate the Bible into Honduran sign language. We are so excited to announce that thanks to the generosity of donors and the work of the translators, for the first time, the deaf community in Honduras has access to scripture in sign language!

The team has focused on translating specific passages of scripture, including Genesis 1-21 and Luke 1-9:17. They will continue to work to translate more passages so that the deaf community can read the scripture in their own language. You can read more about our partnership with Wycliffe on this project here:

How to pray for this project:

  • Praise God for the successful completion of this project! Despite delays caused by natural disasters, pandemic restrictions and civil unrest, the Lord has blessed the project and team members were able to accomplish great progress in the translation work. This has produced the first Scripture in Honduran Sign Language.

  • Pray that many hearts would be impacted through God’s Word. Pray for local church leaders and believers to be able to use the Scripture videos in sermons and Bible study groups. Ask the Lord to give the Deaf communities understanding as they study his Word.

  • Give thanks! Translators are already hard at work translating more Scripture into Honduran Sign Language. Pray for their progress to be unhindered and that they will be able to accomplish much more than they planned.

  • Praise God for peaceful government elections in Honduras. Pray for the newly elected president to care for the people well and for the government to support the work of local churches and Christians. Ask the Lord for a smooth transition of power so the country may thrive and be a safe place for its people to live in.

  • COVID-19 is still a concern. Pray for the health and safety of team members and their families, as well as of their communities.

Thank you for helping us reach the hearing impaired in Honduras with the life-giving Word of God!
